About the Rainmaking@Okanagan Series Project
The Rainmaking@Okanagan series, a dynamic initiative within the Social Innovation Hub, focuses on collaborative exploration of innovative solutions to enhance community resilience, smart city development, future skills training through higher education, and research innovation. Co-hosted by the Social and Economic Change Lab (SE-Change Lab) at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan campus and the Good City Foundation, this series highlights and addresses the socio-economic changes and challenges in the Okanagan region and beyond.
Objectives of the Rainmaking@Okanagan Series
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Bringing together diverse participants to co-explore and devise innovative solutions for pressing local issues.
- Community Resilience and Smart Cities: Focusing on enhancing the resilience of communities and the development of smart cities as a response to evolving socio-economic needs.
- Future Skills Training: Emphasizing the role of higher education in equipping individuals with the skills necessary for the future workforce.
- Research and Community Partnership: Encouraging research innovation in partnership with community stakeholders to address regional challenges effectively.
Expansion and Future Focus
The Rainmaking series plans to expand its reach to other emerging regions and cities in interior British Columbia, such as Kamloops and Prince George. This expansion is facilitated through the Tri-University partnership between UBCO, TRU, and UNBC, aiming to replicate and adapt successful strategies to different contexts and communities.
